How it works

Test the salt (strips or the generator’s reading), enter your pool volume and the level your generator wants.
Pounds of salt = ppm to add × gallons ÷ 120,000. Too much can only be fixed by draining, so add in steps and retest after a day of circulation.
Example: 10,000 gallons of fresh water to 3200 ppm: 267 lb, about 6.7 bags of 40 lb. 15,000 gallons from 2800 to 3200 ppm: 50 lb.

Frequently asked questions

How much salt does a pool need?

From fresh water to 3200 ppm: about 267 lb per 10,000 gallons. Then only small top-ups after splash-out, backwash or rain.

What if I added too much salt?

Only fresh water brings it down: replacing 10 % of the water lowers it 10 %.

What salt do I use?

Pool salt: 99 % pure sodium chloride with no iodine or anti-caking additives.
